Wow, I'm The Best Mom EVER!
Yep, I am, I'm the best mom ever. Except for the fact that in 5 seconds of me not watching, my son crawled across the living room and fell down an uncarpeted set of stairs. Hmmm, ya. A week before his 1 year birthday party, and he now has three, YES three, large bruises on his face. Those are just the ones you can see! My poor baby boy... Why am I telling you this?
Well, besides my the insane amount of guilt eating my soul away at this very instant, I'm telling you this so you guys don't do what I did! My husband and I were both in the living room, I had just come inside from taking the dog out. I was still standing on the tile of our entryway, discussing giving our dog a bath. Our son was sitting happily a few feet from us. So my husband and I were talking and the next thing you know...we hear a little 11 month old body hitting stairs and then little baby screams. Oh, I feel horrible. USE THE DAMN GATES PEOPLE, THAT'S WHAT THEY'RE THERE FOR!! Ours was sitting right next to where it should have been up.
He's fine, lots of bruises and I hope that's it. It didn't seem to effect him much as he was chasing the cat again (the reason he decided to take a header down our basement stairs was that stupid cat) within about 2 minutes of the rolly polly incident.
Am I a perfect mom? HELL NO! And as an imperfect mom, I implore you to use the gates:-( It could have been much, much worse and I thank God that he is ok. My poor baby boy...

aawww, I hope that the baby is ok..

Well..if you're a bad mommy, my wife and I must be the WORST parents in the whole world! I blogged this already if you're interested in reading the saga..there are still more follow ups to come.
Long story short - We have stairs. We have gates. Unfortunately, we have a very wide base to the stairs. The gate doesn't fit until the 5th stair.
I'm playing with my 20mo old daughter while wife is out shopping. She's standing on the 3d step. Mommy comes in with the groceries. She moves to the bottom of he steps, I walk into the kitchen. In less than 1 nanosecond..Kylie falls. The wife picks her up immediately and holds her as I come running back out to the living room. Lets just say, a forearm is not supposed to bend in the direction hers was...we immediately went to the ER. Kylie broke her radius in 2 places. That was on Easter weekend. She's had the surgery, she's in a pretty pink cast, and we go back for a follow up next Monday.
So..even with a gate, and mom less than 1 foot away, it still happened. We replay it over and over..but..there was nothing more we could have done..and I'm sure there wasn't much more you could do either. Kids are going to get hurt. All we can do is kiss the booboos and put them in bubblewrap from that point forward until they turn 18!
