I asked my daughter (6) what she wanted for Christmas. It’s definitely time to start hunting for bargains! She knew what she wanted right away. “I want Biscuit the dog.” Ok, fine, so I put it on her list. I e-mailed a few people and let them know about Biscuit, I had never heard of it but my daughter said it was just a stuffed animal that does tricks. Sounds cool to me. As we were walking through Costco she said “Look mom, that’s Biscuit! That’s the dog I want.” I turn to see a stuffed animal dog with a $150 price tag…ARE YOU SERIOUS!
Since when did these toys over $150 become the posh toys! Seriously! Am I the only one that thinks that is way over the top for one toy? I can’t justify it what-so-ever. They have these ponies that kids can ride on and hummers kids can drive. Hell, I was happy with a Cabbage Patch Kid when I was a kid, I remember I got a radio one year, that rocked! When did our kids need this stuff to be fulfilled for Christmas?
I explained to my daughter there was no way she was getting that. For one, I know my daughter and she’d play with it for like 2 days and that would be it. Not to mention the fact that we have more than one kid and a budget. She decides to try bargaining with me. She says that we don’t have to get it for her, one of her grandmas will. Ya, NO crazy kid, neither of your Grandma’s are that crazy. “Well, maybe you can pay for it little by little.” Um, I’m not taking out a loan so you can have a silly dog. Then she tried “Santa can get it for me”. My husband stopped that one and said Santa was on a budget this year to, due to the elves and labor unions.
Anyhow, I finally explained to her that it would take over two and a half years to save up enough allowance for it, so if she wanted it bad enough, she could save and get it. Her eyes got wide and she said she’d think of something else for Christmas.
Please, toy manufacturers, listen to me. We can’t afford your $150 to $300 stuffed animals, we have to buy milk and my family would like some meat once in a while. Haven’t you heard? We are in a recession!!!
