    Benefits of Me Time

    By Mommie | January 30, 2008

One of my new year’s resolutions was to take more time for myself. Ya, guess what, I haven’t done it. But today I am starting to go to the gym for some “me-time”. Now mind you, I don’t like gyms, I am a germaphobe, and I don’t think I need to lose weight. So why would I do this? What are the big benefits of me time? What will it do that a quick naptime for the kids won’t?

“Me time” or “personal time” has many benefits.

    - Stress Reliever – I stress out, and I mean A LOT. Getting out by myself can help me reassess what is important and what to probably put my stressing on the backburner for a while.

    - Individualality – I’m not just Mommie, I’m an actual individual with likes and wants that don’t orbit my children. While my children always come first, I still need to express myself and remember who I am and what I stand for. That gets lost in the shuffle when the only people you see are teachers, 6 year olds, babies and their moms.

    - Centering – It can help me to be an overall better mom by gaining perspective on the state of things.

We’ll see how the gym thing goes; I plan on doing 3 days a week. Hey, added bonus is that I may be in shape for swimsuit season with my baby on my hip!!.

You are so right. Me-time is so important even after becoming a mommy. I would love to join a gym but unfortunately it is not in the budget for me. I need to start tapping into my entrepreneurial side so I can do it! It is important not to get totally lost into diapers and vaccine conversations. That is why Mom’s Night Out is so necessary.

      Congratulations on taking that step.

Taking more time for myself was something I determined I needed to do a while ago. I was so used to giving, giving, giving that I simply wore myself out. I believe it if vital for mom’s to take that time for themselves, but that is always easier said than done. I still don’t spend enough time refueling.

As for the REC center. That’s where I go. We are lucky enough to have an incredible facility not to far from our home. They have pretty much the same equipment that I would pay a lot more for. With the Rec Center we pay for the entire families membership for less than the cost of a single membership at a private facility.
