    Christmas through the years

    By Mommie | November 29, 2007

So today my daughter and I finished putting up the rest of the Christmas decorations. She had asked me why we had the same old stuff this year that we had last year to put up. She must think that you should buy new stuff each year. So my husband had explained to her that she will be seeing that same Christmas stuff for the rest of our lives, as it’s all a tradition.

It got me thinking about the things I remember at Christmas. I remember that my mom always made to much fudge, but it was the absolute best fudge in the world. She’d put it in round tins in waxed paper, then put them in the freezer until Christmas. We’d always eat it out of the freezer (not sure if she knew we were sneeking it or not). I remember my fathers Corn Flake cookies, and how he’d make sure we had two things around the house during Christmas time: Ribbon candy and nuts (the kind you have to use a nut cracker on). I remember falling asleep in a pew at a candlelight Christmas service, and laying under the Christmas tree, looking up at all the lights. I remember the large meals with my family, a warm home filled with love and a feeling that I wished Christmas would never end.

That’s probably why Christmas is my favorite time of year, and why I usually start celebrating it on November 1st. Here’s to that Christmas spirit!!!
