Frugal Holidays - Week of 10-8

Yet another installment of the Frugal Holidays! This week we’re going to talk about using discount or dollar stores to your advantage this holiday season!

With the economy tanking, now is the time to take advantage of the cheap stores for some of your holiday needs. Here’s how:
Honestly I hate to shop at dollar stores, as they are always so messy and unorganized. But the last time I was there I was looking for a few specific things that I knew they had for just a buck. I was amazed to see (with my new budget filled eyes), the possibilities that awaited for the holiday season.
- If you are even remotely crafty, these are the stores to go to. You can get wonderful craft ideas there. I saw three women discussing how they were going to make personalized frames. The paint was $1 and the frame was $1. Holy cow! That’s $2 for a personalized gift.
- You can get more bang for your “kid” buck! They had sheets of stickers, not just the little sheets with like 5 stickers on it, but big 8 1/2 x 11 sheets of stickers for $1. Buy $10 worth of stickers and their $1 sticker book and that’s better than what you’ll find out there for this holiday season.
- Decorate on $1! They already had their Christmas stuff out, all of it $1. You can go all out, where as anywhere else you had just better wait for the AFTER Christmas sale.
- Make a basket. I always love these ideas, but at the $1 store you can fill a basket for less moola. This is definitely the way to go for presents for the neighbors or friends.
All in all, I still hate shopping at the dollar stores, but ya know what, it’s a decent option for this holiday season. Keep it in mind this year!
