Frugal Holidays – Week of 9-7
September 7th, 2008 by Mommie

I realized just recently that there are only a few months to Christmas. While many would think this is far enough away, I actually start celebrating Christmas on November 1st. I’ve always thought that the Christmas season was to short, so I just decided to lengthen it for my personal enjoyment. Self serving? Yep, but I can tell you I’m much happier listening to Christmas music and smelling cinnamon and nutmeg than not!

That being said, Mommies Home.net will start putting out some frugal tips from now until Christmas on how to make it through the holidays, how to budget for it and great ideas on cheap gift ideas.

So this week it’s all about prep work. Ya, ya, shop throughout the year, I always hear that. But honestly, sometimes it’s just harder than it seems, especially on a budget.

One easy way to start your Christmas projects is to check out the sales at craft stores. There is one by me that has a 50% off coupon in the mail every week. You can make out big with these coupons. There are only about 15 weeks until Christmas, but these coupons can definitely come in handy until then.

Most stores around me have already started stocking up for Christmas, so you can find the Christmas ribbon, the Christmas bulbs, not to mention the normal card stock that all of the craft stores carry. If you start early then your Holiday stress can be minimized, and trust me, we all want that!

Have an idea on the Holidays? Let me know!

I had this realization a few days ago, too. I kind of went “YIKES!” but then thought, “Hey, that means I have time to think about it!” It is coming up, and will be here before we know it!

I tell myself every year, I will not get stressed out over Christmas…this is my year! I’m going to spend more time with my kids doing crafts and baking. They love both. I love a bargain so I’ll be hitting those sales real soon! Thanks for sharing!
