Hannah Montana Is The Next Britney
By

Great, now not only do I have to worry about this flavor of the week influencing my daughter and teaching her how to kiss at age six, but it turns out Hannah Montana (Miley Cyrus) is having a body image problem as well…
She’s gotten a personal trainer to help her shed some pounds (she actually got this trainer last year). Amid rumors that she was pregnant, which were false, she decided to drop some weight from her already small figure. For a normal person it wouldn’t be anything that exercise bikes wouldn’t cure, but no. She had to go all out and get the trainer.
Obviously you can tell that I’m not a big fan of Hannah Montana, at least not for a 6 year old. I’d love it if she would come out and support projects focused on making girls feel good about themselves. She’s an idol in their eyes and I see it as her responsibility. I’m sure she’s quite happy just making a ton of money and being spokesman for clothes and retail stores, I just wish she would work harder at helping her core audience.
What I see coming down the pipeline is another Britney Spears, or for that matter another Jamie Lynn Spears, episode. I hope that that achy breaky heart dad can keep Miley in line…

Well, it sure looks like Miley adores Britney. I totally agree with you. She should be a good role model for kids since they love her so much. I am sure do not want to watch my 7 years-old girl cousin kissing other girls or taking half naked pictures!

ARRRGGGH!! Wouldn’t it be great if we could have a consistently good kiddo get some of the spotlight? Thankfully both of my girls caught enough of one of Miley’s mini-scandals to lose most of their interest on their own. I certainly am trying to help them make their own choices, and giving them the tools to make good ones. I guess it’s just do that, pray, and pray some more!

Can you imagine if Anette Funichello when she was a mouseketeer way back when did the things Disney stars these days do?
I doubt seriously her father will interfere…shes the main breadwinner of the family now. Then again he may want to keep the money flowing.

I hope you all are not this intolerant when your child does something stupid - which they all do eventually.

She certainly has given us some talking points to discuss with our daughter. I’m actually a little grateful to some of these celebrities for helping us have some really great discussions our kids about the importance of making proper choices and the value of reputation.

Ya know, Miley is a munchkin, a very rich munchkin mind you but a munchkin all the same. If you ask me her daddy needs to look out for her better instead of seeing dollar signs. That photo shoot….would YOU have letter your daughter do it? I know *I* wouldn’t. I personally don’t think Miley is all that talented anyway, the show made her popular and the kids put her over the top. Hopefully she’ll move past this, since it’s true that all girls unfortunately go through this, if she comes out on the other side of it and tells the kids ” hey i was fine the way I was” or something like that it’ll help. We’ll just have to wait and see what happens next.

like all movie stars who are basically always in the limelight, miley has her ups and downs and i think its up to us, parents, to make sure our children know the real stuff…
