Mommies Home.net has been up and running for over a year now. It started out as something to keep me busy during my days but has turned into much, much more. Now my goal is to try and make a decent part-time income not only blogging on Mommies Home.net, but also adding my two cents to many of the work-at-home opportunities that present themselves. But how hard is it to actually work at home blogging?
Well, it’s not hard to start a blog, people start them everyday. Not only do they start one, but they start many, all at once. The life of a blog is set at around 3-4 months. This is due to the fact that people just get busy with other things, they set aside their blogging for more important matters or a new hobby. So blogging takes it’s toll very quickly on those that don’t take it seriously.
But even then, if you get past that 3-4 month mark, many blogs make little to no money. This is fine for most, as they aren’t out to make any in the first place. The blog may have been started just so they can share their thoughts and views with the world. But if you want to make money, it’s a little harder.
I’ve had to teach myself the finer points of SEO tactics (still a beginner on this), I’ve put my MBA to use with some knowledge of marketing and branding, I’ve spent hours researching traffic (still a sore point in my book). All of these things just to make a little bit of money with my blog. I started out at $40 for the month of January, now I can make that in a day if I wanted to. Many think that’s still low, and it truly may be, but it’s an increase of about a 98% daily increase, something I’ll definitely take!
But even if one blog is doing well, many bloggers find that the lure of additional blogging, maybe on a new site or someone elses site has it’s pull. I apply for positions blogging about once a week from opportunities that Work at Home Mom Revolution posts.
One thing to keep in mind is that blogging takes time. I’m on my computer every spare second I have. I’ve stolen my husbands laptop and set it up on the dining room table so I am able to get some work done while cooking dinner or helping my daughter with her homework. I retreat to the basement (office) when I wake up until the kids are up, then I’m back on the computer when the little one goes down for his nap. I’m on the computer again right when the kids go to sleep until I’m done with whatever needs to be done. It takes time, something I never seem to have enough of.
So how hard is it? Not hard at all. But the time and dedication, in my opinion, continue to increase. So I guess it does get harder as people are sucked further into it.
