How To Get The Best Job Security
By Mommie | March 19, 2008
While making dinner the other night, I had on the news. I shouldn’t watch the news because I’ve been told I have a “stressful personality”, which is why I haven’t read a news paper. I usually watch the news for the weather, but they didn’t have info on the weather, they had info on the end of the world! Well, not really, but the economy SUCKS, we’re in a recession, the value of the dollar is horrid, people are selling their jewelery for cash, gas is skyrocketing, so basically they were reporting on the end of the world. With my kindergartener coloring at the table and the baby eating the dogs ear on the floor, I smiled at the TV and flipped it off. Why would a woman smile under these circumstances?
When out in the working world, I had been laid off, been at a company when they started acquiring businesses (that laid off their people) and subsequently had to lay off all their people and shut their doors, I have been around the block a time or two being a part of a merger and acquisition team and an integration manager for a time. Being the stressful person I am, I worried constantly about losing my job.
There was no real reason to worry, I had the skills, the drive, I worked 80 hours a week, did everything I could for the companies I worked for, but still I worried. So now with this new economic downturn being laid upon us, why would I smile?
I have the best job security in the world! No one is going to lay me off from being Mommie (although the kindergartener might want that on some of those “clean your room” days). That stress has been removed from me.
Now mind you, there is still a little bit of stress for the husband, but he’s got a lot going for him as well. He’s got the experience, the education, the personality, the drive, he’s one of those guys people just flat out love.
What to do to not get laid off? Be better than the next person, do your best, go the extra mile. You don’t need to have a talent management guru at your side to keep your job. Even with everything going for you, be aware you could still be laid off, it happens, it happened to me. Or just get the job with the best job security in the world, be a stay at home MOM!![]()

i can not agree more with you on two points: be indispensable at work by being damn good at it and if you can’t, be a stay at home mom.
