Kids and Thanksgiving
By Mommie | November 14, 2008
Thanksgiving wasn’t always one of my favorite holidays. I hated the smell of raw turkey in the morning when I woke up and I remember the excruciating pain of waiting ALL DAY LONG just to eat that dinner that I was dying for by days end. But through the years I definitely have come to love the turkey, the all day in the oven and hate the prepackaged “make my life easier” sides which now seem to accompany most Thanksgiving meals. That being said, how do you get your kids involved in the big Turkey day so it’s something they will treasure for years to come?

1. Help them cook - I’m not talking the turkey, because honestly I almost vomit sticking my hand inside of a dead animal carcass at 6am myself, I wouldn’t force it on a kid unless they asked! But they can help put sauce together for sweet potatoes, butter bread, sprinkle french fried onions on green bean casserole, things like that.
2. Have them write a list - This is a list of what they are thankful for. Most kids have pretty cute ideas, our daughter, 9 times out of 10 will just say her family. It helps them remember what we should be thinking of during the day.
3. Have them make crafts - Centerpieces or even place mats are cheap and fun ways for kids to join in the holiday fun. Have them use their imagination for some added flair.
Those are just a few ways to help kids feel like they are part of the big Turkey day. Gobble, gobble.
