Pregnant? Don’t Touch Anything!
By Mommie | August 15, 2008
There are so many things to beware of when you’re pregnant. I’ve put away my copy of “What to Expect When You’re Expecting” because it drove me almost loony in my first pregnancy. You couldn’t do anything, eat anything, touch anything, nothing. A few recent examples: You can’t eat nuts, you can’t have a diet coke, you can’t have any artificial sweetner, you can’t use all kinds of sunscreen, you can’t take a hot shower, you can’t use certain foundations on your face. Exercise, but not to much, but enough to get your heart rate up, but not to high!! Eat 1800-2200 calories a day, but only good calories, not anything that tastes good or anything. AHHHHHHHHHHHHHH…
So with all of these restrictions and no no’s, what is a pregnant girl to do? I was watching Baby Story the other day and I loved this one mom who was video taping herself eating oreo cookies and telling her doctor that she knew they were empty calories and she didn’t care, because they made her feel better. Now I love that outlook when it comes to just weight issues, but many of the no no’s are for the baby’s safety.
Even when we are pregnant, we still need to take responsibility and treat our bodies the best they can be treated. This may include using natural skin care products, just walking as your exercise or just skipping that bath. It’s only 9 months ladies, that’s all you have.
That being said, I should go eat something to feed the baby!

“What to Expect” is such BS .. I read that book and it made me nutso also. Try a book called “The Joy of Pregnancy” - I’m reading it now (not pregnant, hoping to get there again soon) and so far it’s way less “OMG NO NO NO!” than “What to Expect”
Congratulations

LOL, I give my sister a hard time about stuff like that. Not just what you can and can’t do during the pregnancy, but all the things you can and can’t do or feed them when they’re babies and toddlers.
I couldn’t help myself at my nieces first birthday party but to look at all of us who have had kids before and say “Wow, we’re sure lucky our kids have survived!” lmao. All these things you “can’t” give them until they’re such and such an age, ummm yeah, chances are my kids had it ALL before they were a year old, and I couldn’t ask for healthier kids!
I’m a HUGE believer in mother’s instinct! It’s natural for we women to have it, I say follow that and you and your babies are going to happy and healthy!

I actually found inaccuracies in What to Expect. And that was before I threw it against the wall multiple times.

I sometimes wonder if we take things to far. I too believe in mother’s instinct. I think we live in a paranoid society, for example, sterilize everything to death - include all the good bugs we need.
The old saying, ‘mother knows best’ still hold true.

I put that book away once I got better advice from friends and the website BabyCenter. I was more scared of my c-section and giving birth and that book is DEFINITELY too scary to read!!

I totally agree What to Expect When You’re Expecting
is too restrictive for pregnant women.
