Prenatal Wii Fit
August 20th, 2008 by Mommie

Well, I thought I’d update all my readers that responded to my Wii post.  We indeed did get a Wii, plus a Wii fit and some games.  So how do I like the Wii, I wonder if I can spell the word “Iffy” right…wii

The basic Wii, with it’s bad graphics and such, doesn’t impress me to terribly much. It’s just a cool new way of playing games, that’s all. I played some of the sports, but really I just left it to the 6 year old and my husband who love it.

Secondly we got two games for it, shoot em up zombie killing games. I had high hopes, but alas, a waste of money. The Wii takes a while to get used to when you’re playing a real game and not pretending to hit a tennis ball. It’s hard to aim and honestly I just don’t think I’m coordinated enough to use two completely different controllers at the same time. Even with the gun we bought, it was straight cumbersome. We did use an additional compact flash memory card in our Wii, luckily we had one laying around from a camera we purchased.

Now, the Wii Fit I like. That, from what I can tell is worth the money. One thing that is rather disturbing is that the Wii Fit tracks your progress (and your weight). I’m pregnant! So the Wii fit keeps telling me I’m gaining weight, which, even when pregnant, no woman likes to hear.

So is it safe for pregnancy? I’d make sure and check with your doctor, but I think the same rules apply to the Wii Fit as any other exercise. Don’t push yourself, don’t do anything where you have to be on your back (gets me out of all the ab work on the Wii Fit!), don’t do anything where you bounce (like the running). I don’t do any of the push ups and I take it easy on yoga poses where I could lose my balance. I’d say use your common sense, but we all know people who don’t have any of that so I’ll stay clear of that.

The Wii focuses on your core muscles and your balance, which all go to hell when your pregnant. I can see this being a useful tool, if used correctly, pre and post natal. I do think I will continue with my daily walks and prenatal yoga, as those have proven to be quite advantageous.

I was using the Wii Fit, but I sure didn’t like how it was making my Mii look, LOL!

I quit doing it about 2 months ago, I’m just not comfortable trusting myself to not fall over. I just try to make sure to get in a couple of brisk walks everyday.

I’m not too good at the games either, but I prefer the brain games like Big Brain Academy. I do love the Wii Fit. I think if I were pregnant, I would skip over the body test and go straight to the training. :-D

I would agree that that the graphics are not as good as X-Box 360 or the Playstation 3 however the gameplay and unique interaction make the WII a great console. I am yet to try Wii fit but from all reports it seems to be worth the money.

I have just started using the wii fit but I am confused. My Wii age started older than I am. I went on holiday, put on a few pounds, got on the Wii fit and wow I am younger. Over this week I have lost a couple of pounds, got on the Wii fit and now I have got older again. I must admit I do like it and we have some fun with the Mario Kart racing game and my daughter enjoys bowling.

That Wii age has to do with your balance I think, not your weight.

The Wii is great! I never had a video gaming console that causes sore muscles… After the first tennis matches my elbow hurts like hell… bad technique I guess…

The wii fit age is based on several things. Your real age, your hight and weight, your balance and your reaction times. Its a pretty accurate average of your physical (not actual) age.

We had the wii for about 6 months before my wife got really in to it. We bought the fit and while we like it, we’ve found that after a couple of weeks, we’re not using it like we said we would…

We bought a game called Game Party, it has darts, skill ball and some other fun “party” games my wife likes to beat me at. The Wii Play pack is a must have too. Cow racing is soooo much fun.

I also got mariokart for my birthday, and it hasn’t left the wii since then…. :)

Play it now before the kids get old enough to beat you at everything. THey think I am just letting them win.

I just purchased a WiiFit the other day and I’m 18 weeks pregnant. I realized that you don’t necessarily have to tell the system you want to lose weight. I’ve been having problems putting weight on, so I set a goal of putting on 1 pound every 2 weeks, that way I don’t feel guilty that I’m not losing weight. I agree with the other poster, though…my Mii with a spare tire is a little difficult to swallow. Not to mention that my husband laughed his butt off when he saw it!!

If you’re looking for a more interactive fun kind of game that everyone can play, try Raving Rabbids 2 or Mario Party. Nothing beats Mario Party on any Nintendo system. WarioWare for Game Cube was really awesome also but we have yet to get it for the Wii. Have fun!

Maybe you should try out some of the more original games. Nintendo has always been about games that are focused on fun rather than blowing people (or zombies) away. So skip the zombie and gun games and instead get cooking and surgery games.

I found your site on bing. I couldn’t agree more. Weight loss isn’t rocket science like some people would have you believe. It just takes some dedication and discipline. I will definately be back to check your site.
