    Security For The Fam

    By Mommie | November 22, 2008

When I purchased my home, it came equipped with the ADT security system. I was very about this when I married my husband and I suddenly had a little preschooler running rampant. All of our doors and windows have alarms on them. This may sound like something small, but honestly it’s been a life saver because I always knew what was going on, making sure she was inside and not running out a door. Now with our son running around it’s the same thing, he can open a few doors already and the alarm at least alerts me…

We’ve also watched our neighbors home, which also has the ADT home security system. They had it set up with an alarm to go off in their basement if there was water leaking. Sure enough, water ended up leaking while they were on vacation, we (and ADT) were alerted in enough time so no damage was done to their basement. These are just a few things to consider for a home security system. Do you have one? Let me know!

Environment monitoring is HUGE to preventing significant loss. I think most people fail to realize so much more is lost each year to water damage than criminal activity. However, I would urge anyone considering a home security system or water or moisture monitoring to do their research. Never contract with a company that doesn’t back their promises with a performance warranty, equipment and labor warranty, emergency service guarantee, a false alarm fine guarantee and a six month money back guarantee. Without it, you aren’t protected.

Good catch on the additional services that can be provided by home security companies. I would suggest as a home owner to do your research and find a company that does it all in house. from; the consultation to determine the home owner needs and expectations, to the custom design of the system, to the install and they do their own montoring. A company that provides verified response will eliminate the concern regarding false alarms.
