    Stress Relievers

    By Mommie | December 31, 2007

Last night, while I was playing with my son on the floor, basically watching him crawl all over and grab for everything in site, he got to the books in the bookcase. He of course pulled all the books out and started nawing on them. That particular shelf had a few kinds of books in it, philosophy books (from back in the day when I wanted to be a philosophy major and philosophize about being unemployed for the rest of my life), Shakespeare (from the days when I actually read it) and my destressing books. Along with all my other books on that shelf, the stress relieving books were quite dusty, as I loved to thumb through them a few times but hardly ever took any of their advice to heart.

So last night I picked up “500 ways to reduce stress”, a Hallmark book my mother had gotten me a very long time ago. As I flipped through the pages, I realized that I already do many of the things it suggested, like opt out for junk mail, cook big meals and freeze half, stuff like that. What I also realized was that I don’t do about 95% of the suggestions. One was to pamper yourself (hmmm, is that in place of my 2 minute shower a day or in addition to), and to read a good book (is that during when my daughter is bugging me to play with this or that toy, or right after my son has an explosive diaper, or when I’m rushing to get the house picked up before my DH gets home).

So much has changed in my life in the past few years, people who knew me in my previous life wouldn’t even know who I am (or recognize me through a slew of pureed apples and kid snot). Can I destress daily??? Ya, it’s called BED
