Tough Love or Just Mean?
February 7th, 2008 by Mommie

So on the news this morning they talked about this kid in Florida who had to hold up a sign that said “I was rude to my teacher. I can’t come to school. I am sorry!!” So is this tough love or just plain mean?

The boys mom said she wanted to teach him the consequences of making bad choices. Guess what, I agree with her. While being rude to a teacher is one thing, being rude enough times to get suspended from school is quite another. If that is truly the case, I’m sure that this was a wake up call for the boy.

Now, that being said, making your child cry on the corner while being filmed by tons of camera crews, that’s a whole different matter. I think that’s harsh and he shouldn’t have been put on TV.

I’m sure there will be psychologists coming out of the woodwork saying this child will now be scared for life, guess only time will tell.Vote for my post Tough Love or Just Mean? on Mom Blog Network

I think that mom was right on…the kid blew it and maybe this will make him think.

I totally agree with this mother. I think that we have become a nation that coddles our children to the point that they have no respect, no ambition, no tolerance to disappointment, etc. A generation of “entitled” children. I say bring back the discipline…more power to her! Just my humble opinion.

I just wonder what the Mom and (step?)dad have given as an example to the kid…
    Might be surprising?

I think it’s a great idea…..and then, like you, I think it’s horrible that he has to be seen by the world! lol! I guess it’s hard for me to really decide on this …I need more info! lol!

I agree with the mom too.
Way, WAY too many kids get away with being rude these days, and too many parents don’t do enough to stop it.
I think the kid needed this wake-up call.
He may not have liked the negative attention, but it will certainly make him think twice before he is disrespectful to his teacher again.

Shouldn’t he be apologizing to the teacher rather than to the general public?
